Fall Enrollment Open for Financial Services Career Exploration Course Aug. 13 – Dec. 20

Aug 07, 2018

For the fifth year, Nusenda Credit Union is inviting metro area high-school students to take its no-cost, Financial Services Career Exploration course, which offers dual-credit hours at their high school and at Central New Mexico Community College, all while obtaining job skills and real-world experience from industry professionals.

Nusenda’s Financial Services Career Exploration course not only helps students to learn about career pathways in the financial service industry, it also helps them gain personal finance skills to manage their finances — such as creating a budget, making a savings plan, managing credit, and more. Once students complete the course, they are eligible to apply for a paid internship with Nusenda Credit Union and receive compensation of more than $9 per hour, along with additional high school and college credit.

“At Nusenda Credit Union, we strive to go above and beyond to ensure that all New Mexicans receive a comprehensive financial education,” said Shana Runck, Nusenda’s Assistant Vice President of Community Relations and Financial Capability. “As one of the most extensive programs of its kind, this award-winning financial capabilities program is designed to teach students the importance of managing finances while giving them the opportunity to gain on-the-job training and earn competitive hourly pay.”

To date, 180 students have taken the Financial Services Career Exploration course. Seventy-three graduates have become paid Nusenda interns, and 21 obtained positions with Nusenda following the internship.

Nusenda Credit Union employees recently voted the credit union as the No. 1 medium-sized workplace in a Top Workplaces survey; and for the second year, the credit union was named a gold-tier, Family-Friendly Workplace for its workplace and employment policies and benefits.

The fall 2018 Financial Services Career Exploration course runs from Aug. 13 to Dec. 20, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m.; (CRN 76506) and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. (CRN 74498) at the Career Enrichment Center, 807 Mountain Road NE in Albuquerque.
