Partnership with Running Start for Careers Offers Students Career Exploration Opportunities
Nusenda Credit Union, the largest credit union in New Mexico with more than 165,000 member-owners, invites students to take its Financial Services Career Exploration course this spring.
Nusenda Credit Union developed the course in partnership with the Running Start for Careers program. It focuses on curriculum and training on careers available within the financial industry, including tellers, loan officers, human resource professionals, fraud analysis, and more.
Shana Runck, Nusenda’s Assistant Vice President of Community Relations and Financial Capability, has taught the Financial Services Career Exploration course since its inception almost four years ago.
Financial Services Career Exploration Course
“At Nusenda Credit Union, we strive to go above and beyond to ensure that all New Mexicans receive a comprehensive financial education,” Runck said. “As one of the most extensive programs of its kind, this financial capabilities program is designed to teach students the importance of managing finances while giving them the opportunity to gain on-the-job training and earn competitive hourly pay.”
Created by Mayor Richard J. Berry, the Running Start for Careers program is available at no cost to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Through participation in the program, students can earn dual-credit hours at their high school and at Central New Mexico Community College while obtaining job skills and real world experience from industry experts. Nusenda’s Financial Services Career Exploration course not only helps students to learn about career pathways in the financial service industry, it also helps them gain personal finance skills to manage their finances - such as creating a budget, making a savings plan, managing credit, and more. Once students complete the course, they are eligible to apply for a paid internship with Nusenda Credit Union and receive a compensation of more than $9 per hour, along with additional high school and college credit.
