Nominate an Innovator

APS Families Connected

Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), the state of New Mexico’s largest school district, has partnered with Nusenda to help parents and families become more engaged in their children’s schooling and education.

Families Connected provides parents and families with workshops and informative sessions on topics related to their child’s success in school. It offers financial capabilities courses and workshops that focus on how making informed financial decisions can help plan for their children’s future, and facilitate their student’s success in school. Financial workshop topics include saving for college, managing credit, purchasing a house, purchasing a car, and much more.

The program began with five participating elementary schools in 2013; it has expanded to now be available to all who are interested, at no charge, through a new YouTube channel.

The program is open to all parents and families in the district; participants can earn certificates and go on to higher educational opportunities, such as leadership skills, family engagement, and how to be more involved in their students’ learning.

“Your department organized an extremely beneficial and enjoyable professional development opportunity. I loved how you gave us time to work on each section … it was just so well organized and informative. Your presenters did an excellent job … we gleaned many ideas for planning.” – APS Instructional Coach
