New Mexico Tech Performing Arts Series
The Arts
New Mexico Institute of Mining & Technology (NM Tech) Performing Arts Series in Socorro is the only organization presenting national touring artists and educational arts outreach activities in a 150-mile radius that encompasses three school districts in a rural, geographically isolated, and economically and culturally diverse region of New Mexico.
The mission of the NMTPAS is to present affordable, quality multicultural performances in music, theatre, dance, family entertainment, and arts outreach activities that appeal to these diverse communities.
Founded by volunteers more than 60 years ago, NMTPAS became a department within New Mexico Tech in the late 1980s. It hold 12 high-quality touring shows annually, as well as educational youth concerts, workshops, and art residencies that serve about 2,000 K-12 students in Socorro, Magdalena, and Alamo-Navajo school districts.
Contributions from Nusenda Credit Union members through Community Rewards® support educational theater programs and the annual Community Arts party, a local popular tradition that includes diverse, hands-on visual arts workshops for all ages.
